When is the best time to Visit Greece in 2024?

When is the best time to Visit Greece in 2024?

So you can avoid the crowds, to get nice weather and great experiences!

Greece is a popular destination offering a variety of landscapes and experiences across locations and islands, but also across seasons.

Usually, the summer season attracts most of the travelers offering hot weather and the beach lifestyle, but also the crowds, the waiting lists at the restaurants and the endless fight for an umbrella at the organized beaches.

What if you can visit and enjoy the best that Greece has to offer but without the hassle, the crowds, the high temperature, the winds and the high prices for that matter?

How we might have the best of all worlds but not share it with everyone else?

What about if you can have warm weather, fewer crowds, blonde beaches, great food and lower prices?

Then look no further, timing is everything.  The time to visit Greece is a choice of what you are looking to experience.

Especially if you have flexibility in your travel dates and you are looking for a family escape or celebration of a special event.

Noting a personal experience, this past summer season, for the first time I took my family vacation end of August, and early September and decided to rent a beautiful villa on the island of Antiparos. The dates we chose, were just before Greek schools opened so I was able to travel with my family, friends and our 7-year-old children.

Hesitant at first but the timing was more than perfect. We decided to avoid  the extremely crowded season.

We rented villa Sorelia on the island of Antiparos, which featured a beautiful outdoor area and play areas for the kids but also access to a semi-secluded beach a few steps away from the pool area and the main house. In addition, the house was near nearby beaches, the main town/port and local taverns and shops.

We got a flight from Athens and landed in Paros airport, where we rented a car and yes, we had a choice across types of cars and rates. We ended up with a jeep to accommodate our family and luggage.

With almost no traffic at all, we drove through Paro’s peripheral road to get the ferry crossing to Antiparos with 10 cars in total waiting at the port, while we were gazing at the sunset colors painting the sky and the sea.

It was almost quite, stress-free, with a warm summer breeze.

The next day, we had no pre-booked restaurants, nor beach reservations but yet a wide range of options regarding what to do, and where to spend the day with the kids.

We ended up spending the day at Soros Beach, an organized beach area a few minutes’ drive from the house.

We arrived around 4 pm in the afternoon and to our surprise we easily secured a few front-row umbrellas. For the rest of the afternoon, we only relaxed while the kids built castles in the sand.  The temperature was warm and extremely pleasant. I looked around, there were about 40 people.

Usually, when traveling in peak season, with young kids, there is an unnecessary level of stress as everything has to be pre-booked and planned for. Especially the day at the beach. You definitely need an umbrella and need to be as close to the sea as possible for no other reason but to be able to relax while you can see your children safely play. This is of extremely high value at least for families. So being able to have this without all the stress and crowds is a game changer.

What about the restaurants, cafes and activities? Are they still open in the low summer season?

During the months of  March-June and also September to mid-October,  while the average temperature is warm, the season is running with fewer tourists, and the facilities are all well in place and stay open.

During our visit to the island of Antiparos, we enjoyed local taverns, popular trendy spots like Popinos, Kalokairi and the new arrival of Bardot, with fewer crowds and great service.

Escape the cacophony of summer and immerse yourself in the tranquil silence of the Greek Islands during off-peak season.

Step away from the chatter of crowds, the pulsating rhythms of music, and the ceaseless hum of motorized vehicles. Instead, you’ll be enveloped by the symphony of nature’s orchestra – the melodious chirping of birds, the rhythmic crash of waves against the shore, and the gentle whisper of the wind caressing the land.
